Pretoria Open Gardens

16 & 17 September 

Pretoria Sunrise Rotary Club is hosting 12 open gardens in the Jacaranda City, including smaller gardens, larger spaces for active families and sweeping landscapes ideal for entertaining. A clivia sale will also be held.

Times: 10:00 – 17:00

Cost: R10 per garden or R80 to view all gardens; children under 12 free; all proceeds go to the Club’s community projects. Tickets are available at each garden entrance.

Johannesburg Open Gardens Meander 

16 & 17 September

The Johannesburg Garden Club will be hosting six open gardens in Houghton, Westcliff, Saxonwold, Parktown North, Parkhurst and Craighall Park. Visitors will be inspired by the delights of spring as each green space offers something unique in their plantings, size, layout and inspiration. Each garden will also feature a plant sale with individual specialties including clivias, azaleas, clematis and irises, as well as Johannesburg Garden Club members’ own cultivated plants. Refreshments will be available at several of the gardens.

Times: 10:00 – 17:00

Cost: R200 per person (includes entry to all 6 gardens); children under 12 free; all proceeds go to Johannesburg Child Welfare. Note: Tickets must be pre-booked by emailing prue@jte.co.za.

The Witness Garden Show

22 – 25 September

Billed as the biggest garden show in Southern Africa, this event is not to be missed! There’s lots to see, explore and enjoy, including show gardens, school gardens, a gourmet food hall, flower arranging, live music and loads of other entertainment.

Venue: Royal Showgrounds, Pietermaritzburg

Times: 09:00 – 17:00 daily

Cost: R65; R40 for children under 12 and pensioners (60 years +); pre-school children accompanied by an adult enter free of charge. Tickets can be purchased at the entrance or through Computicket.

Hermanus Flower Festival

22 – 25 September

This year’s festival, entitled ‘Fynbos and Fire’, will be celebrating 60 years since the establishment of the Fernkloof Nature Reserve, with hundreds of local flower specimens on display and indigenous flowers and plants on sale.

Harcourts Open Midlands Gardens

16 & 17; 23 & 24 September

In addition to the Endebeni Forest garden, there will be six other gardens open to the public in the ZwaZulu-Natal Midlands in September. They include four in Karkloof and one each in Howick and Balgowan (the latter is also open on the weekend of 30 September & 1 October).
