Inspired by Home, Christelle van der Merwe breathed new life into the tired kitchen of her 1960s Claremont, Cape Town home.
Project: Kitchen
Budget: Construction, plumbing and electrics: R12 500
Carpentry (island, oversize dresser, built-in cupboards with solid oak worktops): R22 000
Clay floor tiles: R5 600
SMEG hob/oven: R11 000
Bosch fridge/freezer: R9 000
Secondhand light fittings: R300
Fabric for Roman blinds: R450
TOTAL: 60 850
About the reader: Although Christelle has renovated her entire house and granny flat, she chose to enter her kitchen into our competition. The study and a small toilet were demolished to create more space and accommodate the dining room table. Christelle also shopped around in plenty of secondhand stores for fittings and other pretty things, and improvised where necessary.

It looks like the workstation & communication/enjoyment flow could combine well. Is that a persian under the kitchen table?
Where are the gas bottles for the smeg stove ..in the island or tracked to outside? and who made yr island?Love the kitchen. We are moving to a new house and am taking my smeg with but kitchen wall space is limited so island/stove would be great.
