Before you get started with this on trend effect, prepare your wall by checking it’s free of cracks and lumps and bumps, then paint with two coats of your chosen base colour. This will give you a great canvas to work on.
The blurred horizontal stripe effect will need a bit of preparation so make sure you’ve got some chalk, tape and string handy.
Start by measuring the highest point of your design and mark in chalk, ideally using the same colour as one of your paint colours, so it’s easy to paint over.
Do the same on the other side of the wall, then measure and mark two or three extra points below.
Now here’s a clever trick!
Measure enough string to stretch between the two points. Run your chalk along the length of the string; now tape each end to the points on the wall.
Pluck the string and you’ll find you’re left with a chalk mark. This will give you a guideline to follow and make the creative bit easier.
Do the same lower down the wall and you’re all set to start painting!
Using a medium amount of paint on your brush, follow the guidelines.
You don’t need to apply too much pressure, as the idea is to get a beautiful wispy effect. It’s all part of the look, so don’t worry about getting those stripes perfectly solid. They’re supposed to look a bit uneven.
Now for your second colour, which will add in some lovely contrast; if you want your lines more wispy just apply a little less pressure as you paint.
You can add in as many colours as you like and use different sized brushes for a lovely layered effect. Choose the perfect complementary shades to create this effect using the Dulux Visualizer app. Dulux Acrylic PVA or Dulux Luxurious Silk will both work well!
Now you’ve added a really personal touch into your home and created a unique look for your friends to admire.
